Dr. Mandeep Johal
Owner of Family Dental Centre
Dr. Mandeep Johal, D.M.D., is a tongue-tie professional, the owner of Family Dental Centre in Guelph, a dental advisor for Well.ca, and a renowned guest speaker. She takes a holistic approach to traditional dentistry by looking at whole-body wellness and how it is affected by the mouth and jaw.
Dr. Johal’s mission is to help parents help their children from a very young age. She sees young patients to assess and address concerns and issues, and to provide treatment. She also educates parents on what they should and should not be doing for optimal facial growth to prepare children for their healthiest, most positive futures.
When her own son was just three years old, she noticed that his teeth were overcrowded. Refusing to accept that the only option is years of orthodontics when he is older, she began researching proactive solutions that she could implement in order to avoid this. Years of research and hundreds of hours of learning, fuelled by her passion for wellness at every stage of life has led Dr. Johal to understand why his teeth were crowded to begin with, which was incredibly important as addressing the root cause is key. She discovered that crowded teeth are only the symptom, however the sources of the problem are systemic and involve the whole body. This led her to a collaborative approach between modalities such as Naturopathy, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, RMT (to name a few) in order to ensure proper treatment.
Dr. Johal is an expert in breathing, facial development, nutrition, dental/postural connection, and tongue ties which allows her to treat underlying problems without compromising her patients’ overall health. She is certified to perform laser surgery by the American Board of Laser Surgery and is also a member of the International Consortium of Oral Anklyofrenula Professionals, a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and an AAPMD Airway Colab Chapter President for Toronto.
Each year, Dr. Johal completes over 200 hours of continuing education to keep up with cutting-edge techniques in dentistry, body wellness (osteopathy, posture, nutrition, speech language pathology) and patient care so that she and her team can offer the best expertise in whole-body health that starts with the mouth.
