Tamara Sylvan
Owner of BCPR SMART INC & Captain at Toronto Fire Services
Tamara Sylvan is an Captain with Toronto Fire Services. A few years into her career she noticed that most parents had no idea what to do during an emergency with their children. This discovery led to her becoming an instructor, instructor trainer and training partner with the Canadian Red Cross and the creation of her business BCPR SMART INC.
When she isn’t at the firehall, or teaching at Seneca College, she is venturing into people’s homes to provide high quality training in First Aid and CPR. Teaching people how to save lives is a passion for her.
In 2021 Tamara received her Bachelor of Education, specializing in Adult Education. The combination of her practical emergency patient care skills and knowledge regarding how adults learn, has made her classes very popular, with outstanding reviews.
When she isn’t fighting fires, or teaching life saving skills, she is hanging out with her three children and her husband in Ajax, Ontario.
Presentation:
Tales of a First Responder: Prevention & Practice for Infant and Child Choking
In this 45 minute discussion I will share practical stories of my pre-hospital care experience in order to highlight the importance of training in First Aid and CPR for parents, in particular with regards to choking. I will demonstrate proper science-based protocols for dealing with both conscious choking, and what to do when an infant or child goes unresponsive from choking.
